My Acne Skincare Routine: The 4 Products That Finally Worked for Me

If you’ve been dealing with acne for a while, you know how frustrating it is to try product after product without seeing real results. I’ve been there — irritated skin, worsening breakouts, and money wasted on things that just didn’t work.

After a lot of trial and error, I finally found a combination of 4 products that completely transformed my skin. In this post, I’ll tell you exactly what they are, how I use them, and why they work so well together.

Step 1 — Eye Eco Advanced Tea Tree Face Cleanser 🌿

What is it?

A facial cleanser with tea tree oil, one of the most well-researched ingredients for acne thanks to its natural antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.

Why I use it:

Since adding this to my routine, I noticed a significant reduction in breakouts. It cleanses deeply without leaving that tight, stripped feeling that so many acne cleansers leave behind. It’s gentle yet effective — which is incredibly hard to find when you have sensitive, acne-prone skin.

What I love about it:

  • Doesn’t dry out the skin
  • The tea tree scent is fresh, not overwhelming
  • Works for both morning and night use
  • Helps calm redness

The only downside:

If you’re very sensitive to tea tree oil, start with once a day to let your skin adjust before using it twice daily.

How I use it:

On damp skin, I apply a small amount, massage in circular motions for 30–60 seconds, and rinse with lukewarm water. Morning and night.

Step 2 — Paula’s Choice SKIN PERFECTING 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant ✨

What is it?

A liquid chemical exfoliant with 2% salicylic acid (BHA). It’s one of the most dermatologist-recommended products for acne — and for good reason.

Why I use it:

BHA penetrates inside the pore and cleans it from within — something physical exfoliants simply can’t do. Since I started using this at night, my pores look smaller, my blackheads have decreased significantly, and my post-acne marks have visibly improved.

What I love about it:

  • Visible results within just a few weeks
  • Lightweight liquid texture that absorbs quickly
  • Surprisingly gentle despite containing acid
  • Improves overall skin texture

The only downside:

It’s a bit pricey, but a little goes a long way — one bottle lasts months. In the long run, it’s absolutely worth the investment.

⚠️ Important:

BHA increases sun sensitivity. That’s why I use it at night only and never skip my SPF in the morning.

How I use it:

After cleansing, I apply a few drops onto a cotton pad and gently swipe it across my face. No rinsing needed. Night only.

Step 3 — Dr. Althea Relief 345 Cream 💧

What is it?

A Korean moisturizer formulated with PDRN (a regenerating ingredient also used in medical treatments) and 5% Niacinamide, which is known for reducing dark spots, minimizing pores, and controlling sebum production.

Why I use it:

When you have acne, it’s tempting to skip moisturizer because you’re afraid it will clog your pores. That was my mistake for years. Dehydrated skin actually produces more oil to compensate, which makes acne worse. This cream hydrates without feeling greasy, absorbs almost instantly, and calms any irritation.

What I love about it:

  • Lightweight, non-comedogenic formula (won’t clog pores)
  • The niacinamide has noticeably faded my dark spots
  • Leaves skin soft without a greasy finish
  • Works perfectly as a makeup base

The only downside:

The packaging can make it a little tricky to get the product out at first, but it’s just because it comes very well sealed.

How I use it:

After exfoliating (at night) or after cleansing (in the morning), I apply a pea-sized amount all over my face and neck. Morning and night.

Step 4 — Tocobo Bio Watery Sunscreen SPF 50 ☀️

What is it?

An ultra-lightweight Korean sunscreen with SPF 50 and PA++++. It’s formulated with botanical ingredients and is especially gentle on acne-prone skin.

Why I use it:

Sunscreen is the single most important step in any skincare routine — especially if you have acne or use chemical exfoliants. Without SPF, post-acne marks get significantly darker. This one is my favorite because it doesn’t leave that white cast or greasy residue that most sunscreens do. Skin looks naturally fresh and is ready for makeup right after.

What I love about it:

  • Zero white cast
  • Watery, non-heavy texture
  • Doesn’t cause that oily midday shine like other sunscreens
  • Works great for oily and combination skin

The only downside:

You may need to reapply midday if you’re spending a lot of time outdoors.

How I use it:

It’s the last step of my morning routine. I apply a generous amount (more than you think you need — SPF doesn’t work properly in thin layers) all over my face and neck. Morning only.

  2. Second → The Tea Tree Cleanser
  3. Third → Dr. Althea Cream (don’t underestimate hydration)
  4. Fourth → Tocobo Sunscreen (though this is non-negotiable if you’re using the BHA)

⚠️ A quick note: Everything I share on this blog is based on my own personal experience. What worked for my skin may not work for yours — and that’s completely okay, because every skin is different. I am not a dermatologist or skincare professional. If you’re dealing with persistent or severe acne, I always recommend consulting a licensed dermatologist before starting any new skincare routine. Think of this post as a friend sharing what worked for her — not medical advice.
